I just recently heard that Brenda passed away and was surprised and saddened. She had only just (it seemed) retired and I was fortunate to have been part of that celebration. Brenda and I worked together at Ag. Cda. for many years, especially in the ADM's office of what is now MISB, but then was Food Production and Marketing Branch (if I remember correctly). My condolences to her family. Your memories of Brenda will help to keep her close to you.

I hired Brenda to work at AAFC, and we were the richer for having her as part of our team. Brenda was a positive, calm influence to all around her in a very hectic office. I want her family to know that they are in my prayers and thoughts during this very difficult time. Take care.

Today as I sat during the memorial service for Brenda, while still in disbelief that she has passed, I thought of how privileged I was to have a wealth of memories of times spent with her - starting back when we were in our early 20s where we met in the Highway Branch of Transport Canada in 1976. We were both shy, she more than I, but we connected, became friends and eventually room mates. Later after we both married and moved on with our lives, distance didn't keep us apart even though we didn't see each other as much as we should have. The day she met the love of her life, she had been skiing with me at Mont Ste-Marie on a Valentine 2 for 1 special. Later that night after surviving the icy ski hills and at another function she ran into Andrew and the rest is history. I got the lowdown the next day over the phone. Last weekend, when Andrew called me to give me the news that Brenda had passed I was shocked as I had planned to go out and visit her the following week. My last visit I knew the time was coming. I had something to tell her. Brenda if you're listening (reading?) after I got off the phone with Andrew I thought about that 80s movie 'Beaches' and Bette Midler's song. Heroes in our lives exist and for me, dear friend you were one to so many people and very much for me. I will always remember your smile and your strength, your love and devotion for family and for your husband. You were the wind beneath the wings of so many. My deepest condolences to Brenda's family (the kids - her siblings) and to Andrew and Allie. I know you will miss her greatly as will I. Every time I see the aurora borealis now I will look for her. We are sorry to hear of Brenda's passing. Her picture brings back many fond memories.....Boating on the St. Lawrence, fun times at the cottage, building a new home, fall wood splitting, her love of gardening, and the infamous carrot cake. Everyone who knew her was blessed to have her friendship and generosity. She will be greatly missed by all.
