Obituary of Derrick Raymond Deir

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Derrick "Rick" Deir of Brockville at Kingston General Hospital on Monday May 11, 2020 at the age of 63.

Much loved brother to Darwin of Brockville (at Sherwood Park Manor), Donna Healey of Richmond Hill, Debbie Lefave (Stephen), Darlene Deir (Dick Zufelt) of Brockville, and Dale Deir (Johna Dailey) of Athens.

Loving Uncle to Jamie Van Hoek, Kyle and Jenna Healey, Logan Deir, and Brittany and Brianne Lefave. 

Rick was predeceased by his parents, Hubert and Maureen "Minnie" Deir of Athens, as well as brothers Douglas and Shawn Deir.

Rick was a graduate of Athens District High School. He went from high school to work at Black & Decker, Selkirk and his most recent employment at Northern Cables, from where he retired in 2015 due to complications from heart surgery.

In his younger years he would often be seen with a hammer in his hands helping out family with renovations. The family will always cherish their memories of Rick and the times spent on the family farm. Rick loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. When family wasn’t available for Christmas dinner his best friend Greg Coyea made sure he wasn’t alone, and made room for him at his family table. Rick spoke very highly of Greg and enjoyed the times they watched a hockey or a football game.

A private family gathering will take place at a later date. In memory of Rick, donations to Sherwood Park Manor would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
