Obituary of George Stephan Irvine

World War II Veteran

George passed away peacefully at his home near Brockville, Ontario, on Friday June 5, 2020 at the age of 95. He spent his early life in Ottawa.

He is survived by his loving wife Lois, his children Julie (Larry), Stephen, and Sheila (Bob), his grandchildren Christopher (Jaime), Scott (Michealla), James, and Stephen, and his great grandchild Olive, all residing in Maine, and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the border.

He is predeceased by his parents Gladys and Stephenson Irvine, his siblings Audrey, Gladys, Helen, John and Dick, and also by his first wife Mercedes (Maine).

George had an interesting life. He served in WWII in Europe with Canada's Governor General's Foot Guards and became a veteran in his early twenties. After the war he surveyed on the building of the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway. He then became a bush pilot flying for Folsom's Air Service (Greenville) in Northern Maine. Lastly he joined the Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket Me., managing several mechanical wood harvesting operations until retirement.

He held memberships in the Masonic Columbia-Doric Lodge in Greenville and the Royal Canadian Legion in Brockville.

After retirement George and Lois returned to Canada to enjoy rural living. George was best known for his love of home and family, and will be sorely missed by his two loving hounds. Cremation has taken place, and his family will gather for a celebration of his life after COVID-19.
