Obituary of June Rose Andrews

June Rose Andrews (nee Hall) 16 June 1922 - 13 January 2021

June passed away peacefully in Perth, Ontario, in her 99th year. She was born in Ottawa to Gordon and Mary Hall and lived in Manotick, before leaving to attend the University of Toronto. In 1950, she and her family settled in Campbellville, where she lived until 2007, when she moved to Guelph. Her final two years were spent in Perth.

June was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Leonard, her sister Patricia McCarthy, her granddaughter Katherine and her daughter-in-law Suzanne. She is survived by her sister Barbara Willis, by children Bill (Xiaoying Cao), Peter (Holly), Jennifer (Dan Waterston) and Mary (Doug Forde), by 11 grandchildren, by 15 great grandchildren and by her greyhound Purdy.

June lived an active life. She enjoyed tennis, swimming, cross country skiing, bridge and walking her dogs. She also loved spending summers at her cottage on Lake Kashwakamak. In Campbellville, she was very active in service clubs, such as the Women's Institute, the Anglican Church Women, the Nassagaweya Historical Society, and the University Women's Club of Milton, among others. In 1972 she founded SPIN (Stop Pollution in Nassagaweya), which started a recycling program well before similar movements became popular. She was made a member of the Order of Niagara by her Diocese. She authored two books, a history of Nassagaweya and one of her church, St John's Nassagaweya. One of her lasting legacies, apart from her family, will be all the genealogical work she did on family histories.

If two words could describe June, they would be love and kindness. She accepted people for who they were, and as a result had many friends. She also loved a party, especially with family. All who knew her are the poorer for her passing. Her family would like to thank the staff of Carolina Retirement Residence and Lanark Lifestyles in Perth for the wonderful care she received there. She was quite comfortable and happy in both places.

Due to the pandemic, burial at St John's has been deferred. Donations in her name may be made to St John's Anglican Church Nassagaweya, Médecins-sans-frontières, the Salvation Army or Covenant House; all charities she supported through her life.
