John Malcolmson

Obituary of John Herbert Malcolmson

Passing away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital on Sunday, August 29, John Herbert Malcolmson was 77.

He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Denise Malcolmson, his children Eric (Nancy), Jackie (Terry), and Iain; and his sister Lynda (Jim, predeceased) Mitchell and his half-brother and half-sister Grant and Gayle.  John delighted in spending time with his grandchildren Riley, Emma, Luke, Georgia and Rose.  John was the son of Jack and Florence Malcolmson and, later in life, he was so fortunate to come to know his birth mother Ruby Peltier.  He is deeply missed by his dear family and friends.

John’s passion for adventure and his deep knowledge of sailing and the St. Lawrence made him respected by anyone who had a chance to learn from him. His love of sailing led to his family taking their family sailboat Perigee from Brockville to Florida in 1983.  In later years, he joined a crew of friends as they sailed through the Panama Canal.  He loved to travel and even had the opportunity to combine work and travel by living in Bogota, Colombia from 1997-8.  He is also remembered through his involvement with the photography club in Brockville.

In accordance with John’s wishes, a private celebration of life will follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Champions for Kids charity through the Upper Canada District School Board in John’s memory.
